Tips to Keep Your Montrose Apartment Clean

Decluttering is the first step to a clean and happy apartment. Whether that means organizing, donating old clothes and items to a nearby Houston shelter or just tidying up things in and around your walk-in closet, that’s your first step.

Don’t forget to disinfect and clean the commonly used areas of your apartment that you touch often. Those things may include doorknobs, light switches, door handles, remote controls and your cell phone and other electronics. Be sure to turn off electronics or remove batteries before cleaning and don’t douse them in water. Spraying cleaning solution or water onto a cloth, rather than directly on your cell phone or iPad is also recommended.

Other things you touch often that you might forget are faucets in the kitchen and bathroom, as well as the toilet flush handle. Use a disinfectant wipe or cleaning solution on a paper towel or cloth to keep those clean.

Everyone knows laundry is a must for a clean apartment, but getting on a regular laundry schedule can be tough. Try something like cleaning your sheets every Sunday before football, or even buying an extra set so there’s always clean sheets for your bed. Don’t forget to wash blankets on the couch, stuffed animals, your pet’s toys, and even décor pillows should be washed on gentle cycle or spot treated from time to time. Follow these tips for washing your pillows. Always read the labels as some comforters need to be taken to a professional dry cleaner and some things cannot be machine washed. You also want to keep your rugs clean by shaking them out (careful not to shake them onto a neighbor’s patio or balcony) and washing them regularly. Again, it’s important to read the instructions.

Regularly wipe down your kitchen cabinets, floors, countertops and inside of your microwave. Not only does this help for spills and sticky messes, it helps deodorize and kill germs. A simple and effective way to clean your microwave is by heating a mug of water with a lemon wedge, then wiping down all sides of the microwave.

Clean out old items from your fridge and freezer, and use that time to wipe down the insides of your appliances every few months. We love our built-in wine fridges, so keep those in mind when wiping down your kitchen appliances. It may also be wise to set a monthly reminder when it’s time for your monthly cleaning. The more you can stay on top of cleaning your Montrose apartment, the less time it will take you in the end.
